Named Scholarships

Through the generosity of alums, families, and supporters, WT named scholarships inspire and support students across all fields. From creative expression to scholarly achievement and community engagement, every award represents a legacy of encouragement that helps to build a diverse and dynamic school community. Exemplary applicants are eligible to receive need-based grants in the form of named scholarships.

Upper School Scholarships 

Bee Jee and Perry Morrison Scholarship Fund
Given by Bee Jee Morrison '56, the Bee Jee and Perry Morrison Scholarship provides financial aid to an Upper School student for the student’s entire four years. To be considered, the student must demonstrate high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, a passion for learning, interest and involvement in the arts, and be actively engaged in the community.

The Catalyst Fund for WT Scholars
Established by the Porges family, the Catalyst scholarship supports talented, high-need students in Middle or Upper School who have strong academic potential and motivation to excel in a rigorous college preparatory program. The donors encourage other donors to support this fund.

Connie Blum Marstine Scholarship Fund
Established by Sheldon Marstine in memory of his beloved wife, WT alumna Constance (Connie) Blum Marstine ’55, the Marstine scholarship supports a Middle or Upper School student who demonstrates high academic achievement, a passion for learning, and intellectual curiosity.

Cyert Family Scholar
Established by Lucinda (Cindy) Cyert Steffes ’69 and the Cyert Family Foundation, the Cyert Scholarship provides financial aid to an Upper School student who demonstrates high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, a passion for learning, and interest in the dramatic arts

Emily E. Dorrance Award

Each year at commencement, the Emily E. Dorrance Award is presented to one graduating senior who best exemplifies a student whose conduct, interaction, and leadership demonstrate WT’s credo to “Think also.” The recipient, selected by the Upper School Faculty, receives a monetary prize, a portion of which is donated to a charity of their choice. EQT Fund for WT Scholars
Established by the EQT Foundation, this scholarship supports two students who have the potential for high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and ability to engage fully in a vibrant, increasingly rigorous academic program.

FAME Scholarship
Made possible through the Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME), the FAME Scholarship provides grants to African American students in five participating local independent schools. To be considered, a student must be able to demonstrate high financial need, potential for continuing academic success, leadership capabilities, and commitment to community service. Once designated a FAME Scholar, a student in good standing continues to receive benefits until graduation.

Hilda M. Willis Arts Scholarship
Made possible by the Hilda M. Willis Foundation, the Hilda M. Willis Arts Scholarship provides financial aid to a rising ninth or tenth grader who is new to WT, and who demonstrates a high level of skill, ability, achievement, and interest in a visual or performing art form.

John A. and Patricia D. Staley Family Scholarship Fund
Made possible by the Staley Family, their scholarship provides financial aid to new Middle or Upper School students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and can benefit from WT's performing and visual arts program.

Malone Family Foundation Scholars Program
Made possible through the Malone Family Foundation, the Malone Scholarship provides need-based tuition assistance to gifted and talented students in grades 7-12. To be considered, a student must present superior recommendations and demonstrate the highest level of academic ability and/or talent. A student who is chosen to receive the award is designated as a Malone Scholar and will retain this honor throughout his or her years at WT.

Mimi Burke Endowment Fund

The Mimi Burke Academic Scholarship was established by Charles and Patricia Burke in memory of their daughter, Marion (Mimi) Burke ’73. The Scholarship provides financial aid to a rising ninth or tenth grade student who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and teacher recommendations.

Posner Financial Aid Endowment Fund
Made possible by the Posner family, the Posner Scholarship provides financial aid to students who demonstrate the potential for outstanding academic achievement and leadership. The scholarship is open to a new student entering any grade level.

Judy Apt Nathenson Award 

The Judy Apt Nathenson Endowment Fund was established to benefit, enhance, and promote excellence and innovation in early childhood education at WT. Each year, a Lower School teacher who demonstrates imaginative and innovative teaching is named the Judy Apt Nathenson Memorial Chair for Excellence in Early Childhood Education. Utilizing the proceeds, the Chair has the privilege and responsibility for shaping professional development in the coming year. Learn more about Judy Apt Nathenson and past winners here.
