Spring Fling is a WT tradition at our City Campus -- a festival complete with slot car racing, inflatable attractions, live entertainment, karaoke, midway games, flower sale, vendor booths, cake walk, bake sale, raffle baskets, and much more! Join us for this fun, community event: purchase tickets or all-you-can-play wristbands, t-shirts, and flowers online or in the Advancement Office at the City Campus.

Third grade students from the City and North Hills Campuses will enjoy the wonderful outdoors as they explore various scientific concepts. Students will use items found in nature to form an Andrew Goldsworthy-inspired piece of art, explore pond food chains, learn how to use a compass to navigate their way around campus, and enjoy a presentation on geodes. Science days are a wonderful opportunity for students from both campuses to engage in collaborative learning.

Good Friday – No School, April 18

Fifth Grade Mountain Institute Parent Orientation Meeting, April 21, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Mitchell Room, City Campus

Fifth graders from both campuses will travel to The Mountain Institute (TMI) located in the Appalachian Mountains along the eastern part of the state. In preparation for each grade level trip, an informational parent meeting is held. During this meeting we will discuss the details of the trip including itinerary, activities, and student expectations. Each student should have a parent or guardian in attendance at whichever meeting time/place is most convenient. Students should not attend this meeting.

Fourth Grade Overnight Trip to Lutherlyn Environmental Center, April 24 - 25

Fourth graders from both campuses will travel to Lutherlyn Environmental Center for two days of environmental science activities.

Join grades 1 -5 in celebrating songs and dances as “WT North Goes to Broadway.” Students will share some of their “Favorite Things” such as “Green Eggs and Ham” and their favorite word “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!” We invite you to come and celebrate as we “Give Our Regards to Broadway” with songs from Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Annie, and The Sound of Music.

First Grade Architecture Field Trips to the Carnegie Museum of Art, May 2, 7, and 8, 9:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

First graders will travel to the Carnegie Museum of Art for a three day Architecture workshop. The children will visit various areas of the museum including the Hall of Architecture. The unit culminates with an Architect's Convention in May where the students display their own buildings that they created at the museum.

The first grade scientists at the City Campus will join their North Hills Campus counterparts for a day filled with activities involving air and flight including a paper airplane station, and a special after-lunch visit from our friends at the Pittsburgh Aviary. Students may wear their own clothes that day but should be dressed for the weather -- this means layers and perhaps rain boots and an extra pair of shoes!

Fifth Grade Overnight Trip to the Mountain Institute, May 14 – May 16

The fifth grade students and teachers are gearing up for the annual trip to The Mountain Institute (TMI). This trip combines environmental science with outdoor adventure and has connections to the language arts and physical education programs. TMI is located in the Appalachian Mountains along the eastern part of the state, and is approximately one mile from the Spruce Knob summit – the highest point in West Virginia.

Students will participate in a variety of games and fun activities to celebrate spring and the end of another successful school year. Field Day is an Own Clothes Day and students should wear clothes that are comfortable for an active day, tennis shoes, and sunscreen. Parent volunteers are needed for setup and to help out throughout the afternoon. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Cooper.

Each year we formally celebrate the culmination of the Lower School experience with a Moving Up Ceremony. It is a wonderful time for students and faculty to reflect on the experience as students prepare to move up a grade in the fall!

  • Children should come to school at the usual 8:15 a.m. arrival time. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Because parking spaces are limited in our school parking lot, parents are encouraged to use the Hartwood Acres parking lot near Central Elementary School. Shuttle service from Central to WT will be provided.

Join us for our annual WT Kennywood Day! Tickets are available for purchase for $27 apiece. Please send in the ticket order form with payment and tickets will be issued to your child. If you'd prefer the tickets mailed to you, please provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Or, you can simply purchase them from Stacie Schmidt in the Office of Institutional Advancement. WT Opera Academy: Pittsburgh Opera Performance of Glass' Orphee, May 4 (mini-course on April 30)

The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice gets a “lyrical, even seductive” (Washington Times) makeover from Philip Glass, via French visionary Jean Cocteau: the poet Orphée becomes involved with a mysterious Princess. Love eventually triumphs...but not without a price.

Packages include a WT After 3 mini-course and tickets to the Pittsburgh Opera performance at the Benedum. The mini-course for students and families will examine the characters, themes, and plot of Orphee. Performance ticket packages are priced at $35 per person. Please respond by April 16.
