Named Scholarships

The Mimi Burke Academic Scholarship was established by Charles and Patricia Burke in memory of their daughter, Marion (Mimi) Burke ’73. The Scholarship provides financial aid to a rising ninth or tenth grade student who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and teacher recommendations.

Established by the Porges family, the Catalyst scholarship supports talented, high-need students in Middle or Upper School who have strong academic potential and motivation to excel in a rigorous college preparatory program. The donors encourage other donors to support this fund.

Established by Lucinda (Cindy) Cyert Steffes ’69 and the Cyert Family Foundation, the Cyert Scholarship provides financial aid to an Upper School student who demonstrates high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, a passion for learning, and interest in the dramatic arts.

Established by the EQT Foundation, this named scholarship supports two students who have the potential for high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and ability to engage fully in a vibrant, increasingly rigorous academic program.

Made possible through the Malone Family Foundation, the Malone Scholarship provides need-based Winchester Thurston tuition assistance to gifted and talented students in grades 7-12. To be considered, a student must present superior recommendations and demonstrate the highest level of academic ability and/or talent. A student who is chosen to receive the award is designated as a Malone Scholar and will retain this honor throughout his or her years at WT.

Established by Sheldon Marstine in memory of his beloved wife, WT alumna Constance (Connie) Blum Marstine ’55, the Marstine scholarship supports a Middle or Upper School student who demonstrates high academic achievement, a passion for learning, and intellectual curiosity.

Given by WT alumna Bee Jee Morrison '56, The Bee Jee and Perry Morrison Scholarship provides financial aid to a Jewish student entering ninth grade and is available for the student’s entire four years. To be considered, the student must demonstrate high academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, a passion for learning, interest and involvement in the arts, and be actively engaged in the community. Preference will be given to a female student, but all are encouraged to apply.

Made possible by the Posner family, the Posner Scholarship provides financial aid to students who demonstrate the potential for outstanding academic achievement and leadership. The WT named scholarship is open to a new student entering any grade level.

Made possible by the Staley Family, the Staley Scholarship provides financial aid to new Middle or Upper School students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and can benefit from WT's visual and performing arts program.

This named scholarship is made possible by Mary Houston Griffin, a Winchester School alumna from the class of 1921. Ms. Griffin later taught at The Winchester School (under Miss Mitchell, our school founder) from 1925-1931. She died in 1995 and created an endowment for WT to establish a scholarship in her name, as well as an award for teaching excellence. This WT named scholarship is given to either a new or returning student to WT who demonstrates academic excellence.

The D. Barbara Abney '52 Fund provides financial support to currently enrolled WT Upper School students receiving financial aid for non-tuition expenses. Families interested in receiving financial support through this fund should contact the Director of Financial Aid.

Made possible through the Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME), the FAME Scholarship provides grants to African American students in five participating local independent schools. To be considered, a student must demonstrate high financial need, potential for continued academic success, leadership capabilities, and commitment to community service. Once designated a FAME Scholar, a student in good standing continues to receive benefits until graduation.

Made possible through the Middle School Scholarship Fund, the Middle School Scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. The WT named scholarship is open to a new student entering Middle School, and all eligible applicants are automatically considered for this scholarship.

Made possible through the Lower School Scholarship Fund, the Lower School Scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. The scholarship is open to a new student entering Lower School, and all eligible applicants are automatically considered for this scholarship.
