World Languages and Cultures
In the World Languages and Cultures Department, we view the whole world as our campus to prepare students for the responsibilities of global citizenship. Languages are at the core of our shared humanity and the freedom to express ourselves through language is a fundamental human right. Language learning opens doors to lifelong opportunities for personal relationships, cultural enrichment, community engagement, career development: in short, for full and active participation in our global community.
We offer students the opportunity to learn Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish. Courses are designed to help students develop language proficiency and cultural knowledge and competence as they learn about the world around them. We are committed to making language learning accessible so that each student can enjoy the rewards that language learning brings. Our department provides opportunities for all students to use their growing language skills to:
- express their views on meaningful topics
- access and consider diverse perspectives from a variety of sources
- navigate differences with curiosity, empathy, and respect
- develop 21st-century skills in a global context
