STEM

With a mission that encourages students to make a difference in their communities, WT’s STEM courses promote problem-solving for the common good. Our project-based courses empower students as agents of change, as they apply powerful research, programming, engineering, and design skills to real-world challenges. Through our City as our Campus program, we connect students - classes and individuals - with industry leaders and entrepreneurs. We also train students to safely and effectively use the tools in our two maker spaces.

Each spring, WT organizes a STEM Symposium where students present their projects in a public forum. The evening celebrates curiosity and innovation and prepares participants for college-level research and presentations. Read more about our students’ projects below!

Sample STEM Symposium Projects

I think [the STEM Symposium] is the most relevant thing we do. It is the most eye-opening thing that happens all year. There is no ‘A on a test’ that can convey what our students are capable of.

Sigma Magazine

Sigma is WT's student-run academic journal. The editorial team solicits critical writing from all academic disciplines, peer-reviews these articles, and synthesizes the work into a published journal for the entire Winchester Thurston community to enjoy. Sigma editors also run workshops on research methods and writing for publication so every student can learn to showcase their best ideas.
