Events and Traditions

The WT Upper School experience includes many meaningful traditions:

Classcapades
Sponsored each year by the Upper School Student Council, Classcapades is an annual grade-level competition that showcases the talents and abilities of the student body in fun and engaging ways. Students prove their knowledge of Pop Culture, Movie Quotes, Spelling Backwards, Geography, and Teacher Facts in our annual Jeopardy-style Quiz Bowl event; harness their quick reflexes in our Volleyball or Dodgeball matches; call upon their comedic instincts in our Improv Comedy event; and demonstrate the artistic abilities in order to be crowned the champion of our Upper School Talent Show. Every year we add more to the list of events!

Community Days
At WT, we periodically pause the busy academic calendar to connect with one another and members of the broader Pittsburgh community. Students meet with representatives from esteemed organizations to explore the meaning of service, leadership, and civic responsibility. We also take time to strengthen our bonds with one another through fun and fulfilling activities.

Ninth Grade Retreat
The annual Ninth Grade Retreat lays the foundation for a strong and cohesive freshman class. Before the first day of school, ninth-graders - along with their advisors, administrators, and senior class leaders - convene at Camp Guyasuta to build bonds as the newest members of the Upper School community. Team building initiatives and high and low ropes courses are a few of the ways students develop skills in cooperation, risk-taking, and mutual support.

Senior Appreciation Assembly
Each May, the Senior Appreciation Assembly is a festive time of camaraderie and congratulations for graduating seniors and their parents/guardians; a time to welcome a new class to the Alumnae/i Association; and a time of sharing memories of "Dear Old WT."

Class Day
A spring tradition, Class Day celebrates and recognizes students for excellence in all areas of school life -- academics, athletics, arts, and service.
