Upper School Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

On November 8, 2017, Upper School students Tristan Forsythe and Ayanna Townsend signed National Letters of Intent for Division I universities. Tristan Forsythe committed to run track and cross country at Georgetown University, and Ayanna Townsend committed to play basketball at Xavier University. The students signed at WT, surrounded by family, coaches, faculty, administration, and friends.

Both student-athletes have served as team leaders and achieved many individual accolades during their time at WT.

Tristan has earned the distinction of being a two-time State Champion. Tristan was part of two Boys Cross Country State Championship teams – the Bears won States in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, Tristan became the Class 1A Individual WPIAL Champion and State Champion, leading the way for Boys Cross Country's first-place team finish at WPIAL Championships. Tristan has also received Track accolades. Last spring, he competed in prestigious competitions, like the NYRR Milrose Games, and became the 1600-meter WPIAL Champion and PIAA State Champion. This fall, he was recognized as a TribLive Pittsburgh Athlete of the Week.

Tristan also received WT's Cassy Richards '01 Athlete of the Year award, which celebrates a student-athlete of strong character who has competed successfully at the highest athletic levels, at the 2017 Upper School Class Day Awards.

Ayanna led the Girls Basketball team to its first WPIAL Championship in School history in 2016. The championship win was fueled by the momentum of a record-setting Girls Basketball season, which included WT's first ever Girls Basketball Section Championship and WPIAL Championship, and a #1 state ranking. Ayanna was named the player of the Championship game, the Post-Gazette Class A player of the year, and recognized as a TribLive Pittsburgh Athlete of the Week. In addition, Ayanna was named to the All-Section team, and selected first-team All-State.

Ayanna was also recognized as WT's Female Athlete of the Year during the 2017 Upper School Class Day Awards.

Congratulations, Tristan and Ayanna!
