About the Instructor: Mr. Tian Yu teaches Middle School and Upper School Mandarin at Winchester Thurston School. A native of China, he has been a translator and international business person, a government certified university English teacher, textbook editor, and researcher on education practices. He has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching, as well as in English speaking competitions; he has also coached students in China who have won similar awards. Tian Yu is pursuing a Master's degree at Wuhan University in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages (MTCSOL). Wuhan is one of the top universities in China, and a pioneer in MTCSOL. Tian Yu has come to the United States through the Hanban program of the Chinese government and the University of Pittsburgh's Confucius Institute (CI). He is team leader of all CI teachers in Western Pennsylvania.
