Lower School Campus Life
Lower School Philosophy
Recognizing the college-preparatory orientation of Winchester Thurston School, Lower School teachers strive to foster a challenging yet supportive atmosphere. Our teachers encourage students to develop their full potential and to understand their strengths and limitations. A variety of teaching methods is used to address diverse learning styles. Creative units of study are developed to enhance basic grade level curriculum. Classes in art, music, library, dance, physical education, computers, Spanish and science expose children to different ways of expression and experimentation. Through daily interactions, our faculty expresses a strong commitment to each child.
Morning Meetings
A component of the Responsive Classroom approach, Lower School class morning meetings foster a positive sense of community where each student feels valued, important, and has fun! Students come together once a month to greet one another, share something of importance, participate in an activity, and hear about news and announcements.
