Grades 6 - 8 Admission Process
The Winchester Thurston Admission Office team will work with you as you move through the admission process. You are welcome to see our classes in session; please call or email the Admission Office at anytime to schedule a tour of our City Campus.
While applications are accepted years in advance, the formal application process traditionally begins the fall before your child would matriculate at WT. Late applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Families should plan to schedule a time to visit campus; this can be done via email or phone. Tours and parent conversations can be scheduled on the same day of the student applicant visit or on a different day if it is more convenient.
Student applicants should plan to spend a day (8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) visiting the Middle School so they can meet their peers and experience at day at WT; applicants will also be interviewed during their day by a member of the Admission Committee.
We suggest scheduling a visit between October and early February.
Plan to attend the Admission events on campus for another look at WT.
Contact Sandy Joyce at: joyces@winchesterthurston.org or 412.578.7518 to schedule a visit to WT.

Step Five - Await Notification
Once a file is complete, the Admission Committee will review it and decisions are mailed in early March. A completed file includes:
- A completed Parent Application
- A completed Student Application
- Completed Teacher Recommendation Forms
- A parent visit to campus
- A student visit to campus and an interview
- Competed ISEE test or other acceptable testing
Late applicants are admitted on a rolling basis as space permits.
Step Six - Complete a Contract and Financial Information if Your Child is Offered Admission
When a student has been offered Admission, parents will receive a contract and financial information specific to your child's grade. In order to accept the offer admission and secure a place for your child, parents must return the contract and deposit by the date specified in the confirmation letter. Deposits are credited toward tuition.
The Admission Office will move to the waitlist if there is space available after the reply date for accepted families.
Upon receipt of a completed contract and deposit, families are welcomed to WT and to the Parents' Association. Mailings are sent periodically throughout the spring and summer with forms and information. The additional required forms must be completed and returned prior to the child's first day of school at WT.
