Ahoy me hearties! Listen closely as the lads and lasses of Winchester Thurston sing ye a shanty! On April 22, the Pittsburgh Pirates welcomed students from Winchester Thurston’s Lower School to sing the national anthem in front of a crowd of more than 30,000 fans. Under the direction of Lower School music teachers Cheri Hanczar and Janna Lettan, students from WT’s fourth and fifth grade chorus took the field prior to the Pirates’ game with the St. Louis Cardinals. This marked the 10th consecutive year that WT has performed at PNC Park and comes as part of the school’s 125th anniversary celebration. Coincidentally, the Pittsburgh Pirates are also celebrating their 125th anniversary. Established in 1887, both WT and the Pirates have enjoyed more than a century’s worth of storied successes with even more to follow.
