Lower School North Hills Campus

Winchester Thurston's North Hills Campus offers Lower School children (Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5) an idyllic learning environment that's uniquely suited to young children's needs.

Located on seven acres of rolling farmland in north suburban Pittsburgh's Allison Park, WT North features a spring-fed pond with dock and outdoor science center, natural woodlands, butterfly garden, PK farmhouse, main classroom building, and Campus Center (opened in 2005).   

Since 1887, WT has served families who value education as the greatest gift they can give their children.  Our school's Mission and our credo, "Think also of the comfort and the rights of others," guide everything that happens at WT.

A Responsive Approach to Learning
At Winchester Thurston, learning is an interactive process of hands-on discovery. Our entire Lower School program-Pre-K through grade 5-is grounded in the Responsive Classroom approach, which consists of practical strategies for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day.

Recognizing children's unique learning needs, we offer customized instruction in the Lower School Transitional Classroom, as well as in the Academic and Enrichment and Challenge Program for high-ability learners.
