Lower School City Campus

Winchester Thurston's Lower School at our City Campus-an integral part of Pittsburgh's East End for more than a century-features a dynamic learning environment that blends the diversity of a school located in the city's educational and cultural heart, with the safety of a close-knit, welcoming community.

A Responsive Approach to Learning
At Winchester Thurston, learning is an interactive process of hands-on discovery. Our entire Lower School program-Pre-K through grade 5-is grounded in the Responsive Classroom approach, which consists of practical strategies for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day.

Recognizing children's unique learning needs, we offer customized instruction in the Lower School Transitional Classroom, as well as in the Academic and Enrichment and Challenge Program for high-ability learners.
