Come cheer on the Bears, recently named by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a “team to watch,” as they battle Vincentian Academy at home in the Mellon Gymnasium on Thursday, February 4, 6:00 pm!

WT’s Varsity Girls Basketball team is proving they mean business. Halfway through the season, the girls are boasting a strong record of 7-4 in their section.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review recommended the upcoming match between Winchester Thurston and St. Joseph as a game to catch before the season ends. “Coming off a big win against Mt. Alvernia on Monday, the Spartans are looking to make the playoffs from the WPIAL's toughest section. Both of these teams [WT and St. Joseph] could end Mt. Alvernia's streak of 10 consecutive WPIAL playoff berths and 30 in the past 32 seasons.”

In addition to accolades for the entire WT Girls Varsity team were also individual recognitions by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review: “Section 4 also features Winchester Thurston, which made the playoffs last season and welcomes back dominating senior forwards Inaya S. (17.7 ppg) and Jimyse B. (16.3ppg).” Inaya is also listed as one of the top scorers in the league, having scored 153 points so far this season.

As for the rest of the season, Inaya says, “Our goal is to make the playoffs again and for everyone to stay healthy.”
